EPCH seminar on E-commerce to help handicraft stakeholders

The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), the apex body for handicraft export promotion in India, organized a seminar on “E-Commerce Led Export – Challenges & Opportunities”, to upgrade handicraft sector stakeholders regarding the extended business opportunities that they can avail through the E-commerce platform.
 
At the seminar, EPCH Executive Director Rakesh Kumar discussed at length the procedures, intricacies and e-commerce oriented export system and even answered queries of participants.
 
Highlighting the importance of E-commerce in today’s world, particularly in context of India, which has 3rd largest population of internet users in the world, Mr. Kumar said E-commerce extends vast opportunities to exporters for expanding the scope of their businesses in a safe and secure manner.
 
The seminar included presentations by several experts highlighting points like market for domestically produced products in India that can be tapped through E-commerce, relevance of focusing on home market which is growing manifold each year, growth prospects for exporters, safety mechanism and mode of payment in E-commerce, etc.
 
Navin Mistry, CBT Head of ebay.com, Mumbai, said in present scenario global trade highly relies on electronic, internet, email and such other systems and e-commerce led exports are earning higher importance due to swiftness and reduced cumbersomeness.
 
Animesh Singh, Business Head of Jabong.com, New Delhi, explained participants as to how they can tap the rapidly multiplying online community through E-commerce through user friendly features on website, while benefiting from features like unlimited shelf place for product display and round the clock open online store.
 
In his presentation, Vijay Kaushik of M/s Ticker Plant gave tips for making a website, use of key words, etc. and highlighted the importance of branding of website through Google.
 
Over 45 participants including member exporters, buying agents and their representatives attended the seminar.
 
Having EU and the US as its major export destinations, India achieved its handicraft export target of US$ 3.3 billion during 2012-13, while during April-October this year, the sector’s exports grew by about 12 percent year-on-year to US$ 1.67 billion.
