Singstats reports decline in apparel & footwear sales

Singapore Statistics (Singstats) announces that the overall retail sales in Feb 2006 declined by 28.6 percent compared to Jan 2006.Excluding motor vehicles, the index fell by 25.9 percent.
Total retail sales value in Feb 2006 was estimated at $2,071.1 million compared to $2,902.6 million in Jan 2006.
Most of major retail sectors reported lower activities in Feb 2006.
Sales of wearing apparel & footwear, department stores, recreational goods also declined by 20 percent to 40 percent.
After seasonal adjustment, overall retail sales in Feb 2006 rose by 4.1 percent over Jan 2006. Excluding motor vehicles, the index rose marginally by 1.3 percent. Change over corresponding period of previous year
Compared to a year ago, the overall index rose by 4.7 percent in Feb 2006. Excluding motor vehicles, retail sales increased by 2.1 percent.
