Government of Canada has created a panel of experts to advise it on how to ensure more new technologies and products make their way to the marketplace to benefit all Canadians.

Through this panel, new strategies will be identified to ensure Canada's commercialization performance improves in the years to come.

The panel will advise on: what can be done to simplify and encourage the introduction of new processes and products into the marketplace while protecting the public interest;

how to better harness the potential of new knowledge and technologies generated using public funds for developing practical applications and innovations for the benefit of industry and ordinary Canadians;

and whether Canada has created the right environment for commercialization, including availability of risk capital, skills, infrastructure and security of intellectual property.

Joseph L. Rotman, Chair of the Expert Panel on Commercialization, presented the panel's final report, entitled People and Excellence: The Heart of Successful Commercialization, to the Honorable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry.

"In a world where competition is global, change is rapid, and knowledge is a critical source of competitive advantage," said Mr. Rotman. "the panel decided to focus on issues where prompt action was possible. We saw our task as one of suggesting ways to improve, enhance and invigorate a commercialization system that works, but can work much better."
