Shoppers unstoppable despite oil prices on the boil

Global rise in oil prices didn't affect US consumers from shopping.
As a result, retail chain stores sales rebounded slightly by 0.7 percent for the week ending April 29, according to ICSC's index.
The year-over-year pace of growth climbed 4.3 percent for the week.
"Like the Energizer Bunny, the consumer continues to keep on spending despite rising concerns on the energy front," said Michael P Niemira, ICSC's chief economist and Director of research.
"For April, with the strong finish we now expect monthly chain store sales will rise by 6.0 percent to 6.5 percent, on a year-over-year basis," he added.
ICSC aims to advance the development of the shopping center industry and to establish the individual shopping center as a major institution in the community.
Founded in 1957, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is the global trade association of the shopping center industry. Its 57,000 members in the U.S., Canada and more than 80 other countries include shopping center owners, developers, managers, marketing specialists, investors, lenders, retailers and other professionals as well as academics and public officials.
