Tirupur has emerged as the knitwear capital of the country for last few years.
However, the system there does not seem to be as organized as it should be for such a vast industry.
There are no proper records maintained about the machinery in working condition, which needs to be revamped.
Tirupur claims to export products worth Rs8000 crore annually, but there is no genuine report of this figure.
Recognizing this shortfall, Government has decided to collaborate with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT)
IIFT will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) and the Textiles Committee (TC).
K Rangarajan, Professor and Head, Centre for SME Studies, explained that while TEA collects data from its members and other firms, TC would coordinate and IIFT would interpret the data with an investment of around Rs35 lakh initially.
TEA President, A Sakthivel, said that, "We can show our production capacity and easily grab orders.”
