As Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers' Cooperative Society Ltd (Apco) has decided to drop the orders given to societies in district, many of the weavers are expected to be unemployed.
Weavers are also concerned about the stock of finished goods. Manufacturers have already produced stock of Rs30 lakh and it is possible that association may fail to procure stock from them.
According to estimate, over 2,000 weavers are engaged in production of bed sheets.
Apco had given orders of bed sheets worth Rs1 crore in Mangalagiri alone and has given orders worth Rs20 crore to different societies in Andhra Pradesh.
These bed sheets are used in hostels across the state.
The Social Welfare Department has decided to bring cloths from Tamil Naidu, forcing Apco to seize all orders.
The manufacturers of Tamil Nadu offer huge discounts, which is severely affecting handloom industry in the state.
