At IMC's initiative the first College of Commerce & Economics set up, viz; Sydenham College of Commerce.

It gave birth to FICCI in 1927, which functioned from IMC premises between 1927 and 1930 from Mumbai.

Mahatma Gandhi accepted its honorary membership in 1931 - the only Chamber in India to have this rare distinction.

The first Chamber to become ISO 9002 and now upgraded to ISO 9001-2000 in India.

It signed MOUs with over 95 chambers of commerce in over 50 countries.

Has a strong Ladies' Wing with over 1600 members since 1967.
IMC Court of Arbitration functioning since 1985.

Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award - on par with International quality awards - instituted way back in 1997.
225 trade and industry association members - the real strength of the Chamber - through these associations, it represents over 2.5 lakh businesses in the country.

The first Chamber to start 'India Calling' series, the Overseas Indians Conference, since 1999 - many years before the Government of India's Pravasi Bhartiya Divas. 'India Calling' events are being organized now offshores - in Singapore in 2004, in Dubai in 2005, in London in October 2006 and in South Africa in August 2007.
