American businesses met with H.E. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, President of the Philippines, in New York at a luncheon roundtable organized by the US-ASEAN Business Council.
The event was attended by approximately 20 leaders of American companies such as Abbott Laboratories, AES, AIG, Altria, Citi, The Coca-Cola Company, Ford Motor Company, InterGen, Pfizer, and Time Warner.
“We commend President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's leadership, especially her guidance of the strong Philippines' economy built upon sound fiscal and monetary policies. The Philippines has the fastest yearly progress in economy, smallest increase in the prices, and the most number of new jobs created in the last 20 years,” said Matthew Daley, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council.
Council members discussed their business interest, such as the President's development plans for the five Super-regions namely: North Luzon, Luzon Urban Beltway, Central Philippines, Mindanao, and Cyber Corridor.
