The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development announced that Tri-Star Textiles Ltd has been awarded $82,122 in repayable funding to pursue the transformation of its products from traditional textiles for the apparel industry to specialty value-added fabrics used in the manufacture of such products as anti-microbial hospital and hotel bedding for the institutional sector.

"This financial assistance from Canada Economic Development will lend additional support to Tri-Star Textiles Ltd. in its efforts to transform and adjust its product offering," stated Minister Blackburn.

Founded in Montréal more than 30 years ago, Tri-Star Textiles Ltd specializes in the manufacture of circular-knit textiles such as jersey, fleece and interlock fabrics, and specialty anti-bacterial and anti-microbial fabrics produced from 100% cotton and cotton/polyester blend open-end spun yarn.

With the drop in demand brought on by the global market, Tri-Star has survived by increasingly redirecting its activities toward the production of anti-microbial textiles for use by hospital and hotel bedding manufacturers.
