Acting on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, the Honourable Michael M Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada and Minister responsible for the Montréal Region, announced that Fibres Jasztex Inc of Pointe-Claire will receive $1,510,000 in repayable funding to acquire modern strategic equipment for the manufacture of high-quality synthetic fibres.

This project will require an overall investment of $3,620,000 and result in the maintenance of 126 jobs.

"This project, which focuses largely on productivity growth and innovation, illustrates the determination of our textile industry in general, and of Fibres Jasztex in particular, to adjust to the challenges of globalization and find new market niches.

The Government of Canada supports enterprises seeking to make use of new technologies to ensure their growth, one of the goals laid out in our Advantage Canada plan to help the country build a prosperous future," stated Minister Fortier.

"This industry's success on world markets hinges on greater competitiveness. That is why we encourage businesses to innovate and stand out in the market. Implementing this initiative will allow Fibres Jasztex to not only diversify its product range, but also to develop new market opportunities. In so doing, the company will be in a better position to hold its own with the competition," noted Minister Blackburn.
