Flexible labour market essential for economy expansion

Commenting on the activities organised in Parliament tomorrow by the Trade Union movement to promote Andrew Miller MP's Private Members' Bill on giving temporary agency workers the same employment rights as full time members of staff, David Frost, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, said, “The flexibility of the UK labour market has been one of the main reasons the UK economy has created so many jobs and performed strongly in recent years.

These proposals will only succeed in reducing the demand for temporary workers by making them prohibitively expensive to employ.

“It's about time the trade union movement woke up to the fact that if this Bill is successful many people would find a flexible route to the labour market blocked. These workers won't enjoy more security, instead they're likely to be unemployed”.
