In April 2008 consumer prices 0.8% higher. In April this year monthly inflation was slightly lower than in April last year. Consumer prices went up by 0.8%, which is 0.3 of a percentage point less than in April 2007. In the first four months of this year consumer prices increased by 2.1%.
On average, goods were 0.9% more expensive while service prices increased by 0.4%. As regards goods, semi-durable goods prices grew by 3.2% while non-durable goods prices and durable goods prices increased by 0.5%.
In April higher prices of clothing and footwear and petroleum products:
In April higher prices were recorded in the following groups: clothing and footwear (by 3.5%), and furnishing, (by 0.8%), transport (by 0.5%), miscellaneous goods (by 0.4%), recreation and culture (by 0.2%) and health (by 0.1%).
Again clothing and footwear prices went up and again on account of the transition to new lines in stores: footwear prices went up by 5.7%, garments were 3.1% more expensive and the prices of clothing materials increased by 2.5%. Service prices also increased: services for footwear went up by 3.7% and services for clothing by 0.3%.
In the group furnishing, on account of the end of discounts the prices of household textiles increased by 2% and of furniture and furnishings by 1.8%.
Higher prices of clothing and footwear pushed the inflation rate up by 0.3 of a percentage point, while higher prices of petroleum products, furnishing each added 0.1 p.p. Other price increases contributed 0.2 p.p.
