EATP (the European Association for Textile Polyolefins) has released updated details of the programme for its annual Executive Seminar, to be held in Madrid on May 11/12.

The theme of the Seminar is Meeting the Challenge of Recession in Polyolefin Textiles

Introducing the programme, EATP Director General Colin Purvis said:

“The theme of this year's EATP Executive Seminar has been dictated by the move of the economy into recession in Europe, USA and most other parts of the world. Even countries like China whose economies are still growing must learn to adjust to much lower rates of increase. This is a challenge for all industries, including polyolefin textiles.

“Managing a business during recession has short-term needs, like understanding cost trends in raw materials such as feedstocks and the rapidly changing dynamics of global competition in fibres and textiles. These are covered in our programme.

“But no business which intends to be around for the future can afford to neglect medium and long-term issues even during recession. So our programme includes also presentations on topics essential to future competitiveness and growth, such as innovation and the challenge of meeting society's expectations on sustainability.

“With presentations on key industry issues and activities from leading companies, associations and consultancies, the 2009 EATP Executive Seminar will provide new information, new ideas and new contacts for the large number of industry leaders who will be present.

"This is the only Conference anywhere in the world which concentrates on commercial and strategic management issues in the fibre and textile uses for Polypropylene and Polyethylene. Attendance is a must for senior executives in polymer companies, fibre and yarn producers, and processors of polyolefin textiles (such as technical fabrics, floorcoverings and packaging), as well as suppliers and customers. The annual EATP Executive Seminar has established itself as the venue for strategic thinking and high-level networking for the whole polyolefin textiles value chain.

“The Conference is preceded by the EATP General Assembly, at which member companies will debate industry policy issues and decide on EATP objectives for the next year. The combination of the General Assembly and the Conference shows the essential role that EATP plays for its member companies and for the polyolefin textile industry as a whole.”

Highlights of the programme include:
• A prominent consultant on global feedstock and polymer trends
• A senior executive from one of Europe's largest polymer producers, on market developments
• A leading consultant on global change in textiles, with special emphasis on technical textiles
• How global change in fibres will influence polyolefin fibre markets
• How to ensure compliance with REACH and other environmental regulations
• Meeting the challenge of sustainability
• Continued growth in synthetic turf
• Raw material change in chemicals
• Global developments in technical textiles
• Innovation as a source of competitive advantage
• An independent view from carpets
