Tamil Nadu Handloom Weaver's Co-operative Society, popularly known as Co-optex, intends to attain retail sales of Rs. 170 crore during 2009-10. To create new textile designs it would take the services of freelance designers, who would create 2,500 new designs.
In the year 2008-09, retail sales of Co-optex reached Rs 153.78 crore, including exports worth Rs 3.48 crores, against overall sales of Rs 131.02 crore in 2007-08. Co-optex also procured handloom and power-loom products amounting to Rs. 375.52 crore from weavers' co-operative societies in the state.
