Vietnam sees footwear export turnover down in first 7 months

Vietnam's footwear export turnover in the first seven months this year went down 9.7 percent year-on- year to 2.45 billion U.S. dollars, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.
The decrease was attributed to the shrinking demand from the country's major markets like the United States, European Union's countries and Japan.
In an effort to boost exports, local footwear manufacturers will intensify trade promotion in both domestic and foreign markets in the last months of this year.
Members of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association are also conducting market surveys in new markets, and expanding their presence in Russia and Eastern European countries, said Thuan.
The association reduced its footwear export target for this year to 4.5 billion U.S. dollars from 5.1 billion U.S. dollars.
Vietnam earned 4.7 billion U.S. dollars from footwear export last year.
