The Indian power-loom textile exporters should now explore new overseas sales destinations, to increase exports, as the production of fabrics is likely to increase due to introduction of new machineries, said members of Power-loom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL).
The exporters need to look for new markets such as Latin America, New Zealand and Japan, stated Smita Bhardwaj, Executive Director, PDEXCIL, during a press conference on developments in the power-loom sector, organized by the Chamber of Textile Trade and Industry (COTTI) in Kolkata.
India exported fabrics worth over Rs 44 billion to countries such as US, Germany, France, Bangladesh, Italy and Hong Kong, said an industrial expert. In the year 2008-09, fabric exports increased by 12 percent, however, in 2009-10, due to recessionary impact the overseas sales of fabrics witnessed a slight fall, added Bhardwaj.
It has been estimated that, the exports of power-loom fabrics are reducing by about four to five percent every month; but the correct figures have not arrived as yet. However, Bhardwaj expects that, the exports would pick up in the coming days as the situation is slowly improving. The council will also be taking steps to develop a group that can train the power-loom textile workers.
