'Find your own way' – A.T.E. scion advices young textile leaders

Speaking about the Indian textile machinery sector, he said, “A recent survey reveals that India has the potential to become a major engineering hub. However, the government should encourage investments in high-tech textile machinery, make sure Indian companies are not disadvantaged when competing with imports and provide incentives to foreign companies to set up shop in India”.

When asked about the reasons as to why multinational textile machinery producers were not setting up operations in India, though India is the second biggest global textile producer, he informed, “This is because it is very easier to import into India and there is no discouragement for doing so.

“But in China, it is advantageous to produce the machinery rather than import them. In India, the government is not encouraging investments nor discouraging imports. The biggest disincentive has been, permitting imports of second-hand textile machinery under the TUFs scheme, which amounts to subsidising the machinery of other countries at tax payer expense”.

Considering that Anuj himself is a keen social and civil activist, A.T.E is deeply involved in various corporate social activities. A.T.E is fully supporting initiatives like Praja Foundation and the Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI). Infact, UDRI works out of the same office as the A.T.E corporate office in Mumbai.

Apart from this, A.T.E is involved in imparting science education to school students in Maharashtra through the Marathi Vigyan Parishad. The company also supports a couple of hospitals in Gujarat. Anuj himself is on the governing council of the Somaya Education Trust.

His mantra for success – Have a real systematic approach to management. Make goals, drive systems, processes and people towards meeting those goals and keep a balance card for the same. Team engagement is also necessary, which makes people take responsibility and people come forth with ideas.

His advice to other second or third generation textile leaders - Find your own way. Look for your own answers instead of relying on family members or others.
