Brantano Group's FY turnover up by 2.1%

Footwear retailer Brantano group has achieved a turnover of €304.1 million in the 2005 financial year and thus exceeded the assumed annual business volume of €300 million.

In comparison with 2004 a rise in turnover of 2.1 percent was achieved. Turnover in the fourth quarter reached €79.4 million and was therefore up by 9.6 percent.

For the fiscal 2005, the group realized turnover of €304.1 million, which represents a rise of 2.1 percent compared with the €297.7 million (excluding Denmark and the Netherlands) which it earned in 2004.

In 2005, the group opened 10 stores and 2 closed in the United Kingdom and 6 stores were opened in the Middle East. At the end of 2005, Brantano had 125 shops in Belgium (including Luxembourg) and 145 shops in the UK, bringing the total number of outlets including the 10 franchises in the Middle East to 280.

Kurt Moons, Managing Director & CEO, said, “The forecast turnover for 2005 was €300 million. In Belgium (including Luxembourg) we experienced stable turnover growth during the year and strong turnover growth in the fourth quarter. This is not alone related to a good collection on the one hand, but also on the other to the success of the 7 percent loyalty discount on a next purchase and the cold winter weather in the month of December.”

“In the United Kingdom we experienced more difficult market conditions in 2005 and a drop in consumer confidence. As a reaction to this we adapted the marketing actions in the fourth quarter and started the sale early. This meant that in the fourth quarter we realized positive like-for-like turnover growth of 1.4 percent. In the United Kingdom we opened 10 stores this year and 5 openings are planned in 2006,” continued Kurt.
