Textile design fabrication leader Tex Tech Industries has been awarded a major contract from Airbus, company representatives announced. Tex Tech beat out global competition for the business, solidifying the company's reputation as a worldwide leader in engineered textile production, said a Tex Tech spokesman.

"This is a great achievement for Tex Tech, working with one of the largest and most progressive aircraft manufacturers in the world," said John Stankiewicz, chief operating officer for Tex Tech. "Not only does it represent a significant achievement, but more importantly, it is a testament to the innovation and hard work that is happening right here in Maine."

Under the terms of the agreement, Tex Tech will provide fire barrier materials for the internal structures of the passenger cabins for Airbus' new and existing aircraft on an ongoing basis. Airbus already has orders for more than 30 new aircraft for 2006, and revenue for 2005 was more than $26 billion (U.S. dollars), according to the company Web site.

"Tex Tech is a leader in the textile industry and the company and its employees deserve to be singled out as the best in the business," said Governor Baldacci. "Not only is Tex Tech setting the bar and influencing textile production all over the world, they also have local influence by helping to propel Maine's technology sector forward."

Tex Tech specializes in manufacturing tennis ball felt, ballistics safety materials and high-tech specialty fibers and fabrics primarily used for aerospace-, safety- and recreation-related products. The North Monmouth plant's research and development division has received patents for cutting-edge performance fabrics that increase the safety performance of products.
