Costco's net sales climb 11% from $30.49 bn

Washington based Costco Wholesale Corporation reported net sales of $5.36 billion for the five weeks ended April 2, 2006, an increase of 10 percent from $4.87 billion in the same five-week period of the prior fiscal year.
For the first thirty-one weeks of its fiscal year ended April 2, 2006, the Company reported net sales of $33.91 billion, an increase of 11 percent from $30.49 billion during the similar thirty-one-week period of the prior fiscal year.
This year's five-week period included 35 days of sales compared to 34 days last year, reflecting the timing of Easter. This calendar shift impacted sales positively by approximately one to two percent.

The Company also operates Costco Online, an electronic commerce web site, at www.costco.com and at www.costco.ca in Canada. The Company plans to open an additional 17 to 19 new warehouses, including the relocation of one warehouse to a larger and better-located facility, prior to the end of its 53-week 2006 fiscal year ending on September 3, 2006.
