Governor Mike Easley today announced that textile company Innofa USA will expand its operations in Rockingham County, creating 50 new jobs and investing $10.5 million over the next three years. The announcement was made possible in part by a $170,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.

“Innofa's decision to open another plant in North Carolina is excellent news for the hardworking people of Rockingham County,” Easley said. “This only strengthens North Carolina's reputation as a business-friendly state with a workforce that invites businesses to locate and expand.”

Headquartered in the Netherlands, Innofa manufactures circular knitted products for the mattress and furniture ticking, medical supply and auto seat industries. The company currently has 24 employees in North Carolina.

While wages will vary by job function, the expected average weekly wage of the new jobs is $650, not including benefits, which is higher than the Rockingham County average weekly wage of $547, not including benefits.

“We located our first U.S. plant in Rockingham County in 2003 because of the proximity to other knitting companies and the available labor there,” said Rogier Droge, president of Innofa USA. “This location, our talented workforce, and the support we received from the state and Rockingham County have enabled us to grow our U.S. markets.”

The One North Carolina Fund assists the state inindustry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state.

One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent upon a local match. Through the use of this Fund, more than 19,000 jobs and $3 billion in investment have been created since 2001.

Other partners who helped make this announcement possible include the N.C. Department of Commerce, Rockingham County and the North Carolina Community College System.
