SCG's Petrochemicals to open PTA plant in Southeast Asia

Siam Mitsui PTA Co, part of SCG's Petrochemicals Business announced the commencement of production at its third PTA plant in Rayong, the largest in Southeast Asia with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons. The efforts help to enhance potential and reaffirm the leadership of SCG's Petrochemicals Business.

Mr. Suchai Asvathavornvanit Deputy Managing Director of Siam Mitsui PTA Co., Ltd. a member of SCG's Petrochemicals Business, which is the supplier of PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid), said the company's third PTA plant at the Eastern Industrial Estate in Rayong has commenced production with an initial capacity of 500,000 tons per year.

The 10.5-billion-baht new plant produces PTA, a raw material for polyester, which is the synthetic fiber used in textiles, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for use in the production of drink bottles and polyester film for packaging. The new production facilities will be the largest PTA plant in Southeast Asia.

"The increased production capacity from the new plant will add to the total combined capacity of Siam Mitsui PTA, bringing it to 1,440,000 tons annually, which matches the world scale. We believe that our enormous capacity coupled with the sustained commitment to development of manufacturing technology will enable us to address the demand of the polyester and textile as well as PET resin industries in this region efficiently. At the same time, it will help develop the Thai petrochemicals industry, enhancing its competitiveness in the global market. Moreover, it allows Siam Mitsui PTA to provide quality products that ensure customers' maximum benefit and complete satisfaction," said Mr. Suchai.
