Welcome to HomeTex Romania 2006! HomeTex Romania is the only Home Textile exhibition in Romania dedicated to Curtains, Furnishing Fabrics, Bedroom Fabrics, Bathroom & Kitchen Textiles, Wall, Floor and Window Coverings and Carpets.
Home Textile Industry in Romania Romania has become a centre for textiles production, relying on its low labor costs, skilled workforce and access to EU markets to attract subcontracted work from Western manufacturers. Exports of garments and textiles account for more one-quarter of the country's total exports, bringing in revenue of US$4.5bn in 2003, a 27.4 percent increase compared with 2002. The sector employs around 400,000 people. EU countries, especially Italy, Germany, France and the UK, are the main export destinations and account for more than 90 percent of clothing and textiles exports.
Retail sales continued to register strong growth in 2004, growing by a cumulative 12.8 percent year on year in the first eight months of the year and estimated to have grown by about 13 percent in the year as a whole. This followed volume growth of 5.7percent (equivalent to about 21percent in US dollar terms) in 2003. In 2003 sales of non-food goods, which rose by 8.9 percent, were the major factor contributing to the increase.
Strong growth in Romania's retail sales is expected to continue in terms of both volume and US dollars. Volume growth is estimated at about 13 percent in 2004 and is forecast to average about 8% per year in 2005-09, driven by higher real wages in the private sector, reductions in income taxes, and continued robust growth of consumer credit. The value of retail sales in US dollars will be boosted in 2004-06 by the continued depreciation of the US dollar against the Euro.
