Receivers of the troubled company Feltex Carpets Limited have declared finish of its sale to Godfrey Hirst. A statement was issued in this regard which also mentioned Feltex' new name 'EXFTX Limited'.
But Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia (TCFUA) informed that Feltex had conveyed to labourers they would not be recruited by the new company.
Workers' union of Feltex said 300 of company's Victoria-based labourers were worried. Michele O'Neil, TCFUA Victorian Secretary, cited the reason for this to be backing of Hirst's efforts to force labourers onto AWAs by receivers.
Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) is handling a dispute between Hirst and the union about the AWAs Hirst wants to offer to Feltex workers. The 300 workers are not being newly recruited due to this.
Union has also dragged Hirst to the Federal court, accusing it of being unlawful in offering AWAs. Hirst blames the union for being non-cooperative.
With the acquisition of Feltex, Hirst has become Australasia's carpet giant having 45 percent market share.
