The contract for the Borouge 2 cracker is one of the biggest orders in Linde history. The total project value amounts to around USD 1.3 billion. The project will start in early December 2006 and has a schedule of 41 months.
The first cracker at the Ruwais site with a capacity of 600,000 tonnes per year was also built by Linde and started up successfully in 2001. The new ethylene unit will triple the production of petrochemical products at the Ruwais complex.
As part of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) re-organization, the Chemicals Directorate was formed to implement the company's diversification plans in the petrochemical sector.
