Following Washington's assessment in March that US cotton plantings will fall this year by 20.5 percent, Cotlook's US production forecast has been cut sharply.
The reduction makes inroads into world stock projections: during the three seasons ending 2007/08, we foresee that over 2,400,000 tonnes will have been wiped off the world balance sheet, following the addition of over 2,700,000 tonnes during the record production season of 2004/05.
Cotton Outlook is run and staffed by people who have no trading interest in raw cotton, and has thus won a world-wide reputation for accuracy and impartiality. For over 25 years it has compiled and published the Cotlook A Index of raw cotton values.
