Kurdestan Petrochemical, an affiliate of Iran's National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has selected Basell's Lupotech T technology for a new LDPE plant it intends to build in Sanandaj in Kurdestan province, Iran bearing annual capacity of 300 KT and start-up planned for 2008.
Tecnimont of Italy was selected as the EPC contractor for the new plant, together with PIDEC of Iran.
The new plant will be part of NPC's 11th Olefin project. Ethylene feedstock will be supplied from an ethane gas cracker located at Al Assaluyeh. A 1500 kilometre pipeline will connect the cracker with five petrochemical sites located in the western provinces of Iran.
In addition to the new Lupotech T plant, the 11th Olefin project includes a 300 KT per year HDPE Hostalen plant licensed by Basell, as well as two 300 KT per year LLDPE / HDPE plants.
“The Middle East, with all of the new projects being implemented, is destined to become the most important centre for polyolefin production, and NPC of Iran, together with its affiliates, will be one of the most important producers,” said Just Jansz, president of Basell's Technology Business. “They are very pleased to have been selected by NPC and Kurdestan Petrochemical to supply technology for this and other important projects in Iran.”
This latest Lupotech T license is the 13th license granted by Basell for projects in Iran. The 13 licenses represent a combined annual capacity of over 3.1 million tones. Other technologies licensed by Basell in Iran include Spherilene, Lupotech G and Hostalen polyethylene technologies; and Spheripol, the world's most widely used polypropylene technology.
