Towellers Limited, one of the oldest and largest manufacturers of home textiles in Pakistan, and U.S. firm Chesapeake Textiles Company, Inc. of Annapolis, Maryland, have teamed up to develop and produce eco-friendly home fashion textiles.

Towellers, which is run by Managing Director Sh. Mohammed Obaid and Chesapeake Textiles President Scott Silver, have both signed an exclusive licensing agreement to us “ECO2cotton™” yarns produced by Jimtex Yarns of the U.S.A.

“The Eco-towels and fabrics are made from recycled and regenerated yarns, which are being promoted under the trademarked names “Earthtowel” and “Earthblanket.” Mr. Silver explained, “We can produce this toweling or fabric in any size and weight, whether for kitchen, bath or beach towels and woven blankets, as well as the cut & sew components.”

The towels and fabrics are made from recycled and regenerated cotton yarns produced from new textile waste, including yarn waste, trimmings and clippings from apparel manufacturing, which are reclaimed before they unnecessarily to into landfill.

Chesapeake claims the recycling and regeneration process uses approximately 50% less water to produce than virgin cotton yarns and fabrics uses approximately 25% less electricity. The company also notes that there is no requirement for bleaching or dyeing.

The “cotton rich” towels and fabrics have a fiber content of 72% ECO2cotton, 24% Acrylic and 4% miscellaneous fibers, made up of viscose and polyester. The yarns have a natural heather or marl look and there is a range of colors to choose from, or custom combinations can be developed from the available fibers to fit any market or channel of distribution.

Mr. Obaid stated, “We are committed to environmental responsibility and protection, from the reverse osmosis treating of all waste water from our new one million square foot manufacturing facility outside Karachi, to using ECO2Cotton and eco-friendly yarns.”
