On the occasion of Finland's Independence Day on 6 December 2007, the President of the Republic of Finland, Tarja Halonen, has awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal to eleven artists. One of the recipients is designer Harri Koskinen.
Harri Koskinen, one of the best-known young designers in the world today, has created products for many prominent companies, including Marimekko since 2006. He has received several awards, and his work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions all over the world. Functionality and uncompromising aesthetics characterise Koskinen's clean designs. His aim is to find innovative solutions for both the consumer and the manufacturer.
The Pro Finlandia Medal of the Order of the Lion of Finland is the most prestigious recognition in the field of culture in Finland. The first Pro Finlandia Medal was awarded in 1945.
