Kamdar retail takes pride in setting trends for textile sector

Q: Will there be issues of competition for a franchisee in a city where there's already an existing Kamdar outlet?
JRK: It would be more a situation of cooperation as Kamdar's own outlets will help, support and nurture the franchisee.

Q: As a franchisee, how much in terms of returns can be expected?
JRK: It all depends on the commitment, dedication and passion the franchisee has for the business. Kamdar franchisees will be trained in every facet of operating a successful business, in all areas including business administration and management, which comprises operations, human resources, sales, marketing and inventory management. Upon completing their training, franchisees will receive on-the-job training at a designated location, as well as at their own location, prior to, during and after the grand opening. Kamdar franchisees are never alone as advice and support is just a phone call or a mouse
click away.

Q: How has the response been for the franchise so far, and what is your target?
JRK: We've gotten a fair amount of response thus far. There are already 10 “strongly interested” parties who are in the midst of discussions with us, and we are looking at attaining 50 franchises over the next five years.

Q: There was mention about training in business administration and operations.
How long will it take?
JRK: We train potential franchisees in all aspects of Kamdar's business operations for a period ranging from three to six months. We need to see that the individual is truly ready to take on a long-term commitment to the business before deciding to give him/her the franchise.

Q: Who will gain final control of inventory of the franchise – the franchisor or the franchisee?
JRK: This will be a relationship based on the feedback from our franchisees and monitoring by the franchisor.

Q: Overall, how long will the franchising process take – from start till finish?
JRK: Anywhere between six and nine months.

Q: How do you see the current state of the retail business in Malaysia, vis-à-vis the country's economy and the population's spending power?
JRK: The retail sector, barring any unfortunate circumstances, should perform well in the near future.

Q: From which spectrum of the population is Kamdar's business targeted at?
JRK: Kamdar is targeting all Malaysians and foreign visitors as we offer good, quality products at reasonable prices, hence our tagline – “Memang berbaloi” (It's really worth it).
