Governor John E. Baldacci released the following statement on the announcement that West Point Home, a blanket manufacturer in Biddeford, will be closing in June.
“The announcement that West Point Home is closing is difficult news,” Governor Baldacci said. “The company has had a tremendous history in Biddeford and a loyal workforce. We will offer assistance to workers and their families through Rapid Response teams and the Department of Economic and Community Development will work to explore any potential opportunities for the facility.”
As a result of the closure, more than 100 people will be put out of work.
“These are tough times, but the State will not leave these workers out on their own,” the Governor said. “We will pull together and offer every form of assistance available to help the affected workforce and their families.”
