Spain's external textile trade rises in Jan-May'14

Exports and imports of textiles, including apparel, from Spain increased during the first five months of the current year compared to the last year, as per the data released by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
 
Spanish textile exports increased by 6 percent year-on-year to €5.188 billion during January-May 2014. Of this, apparel exports increased by 6.8 percent to €3.656 billion, according to the data.
 
Meanwhile, Spain’s textile imports climbed 14.1 percent year-on-year to €6.62 billion during the five-month period, of which, garment imports increased by 14.8 percent to €4.966 billion.
 
Textiles and clothing constituted 5.3 percent of all exports made by Spain during the period under review, while they accounted for 6.1 percent of all imports made by the country.
 
In May 2014, Spanish textile exports fetched €1.014 billion, showing a rise of 7.1 percent year-on-year. This included garment exports of €702 million, up 12.3 percent.
 
During the month, Spain spent €1.293 billion on textile imports, registering a growth of 16.1 percent year-on-year. Of this, an amount of €933 million was spent on apparel imports, which jumped by 19.5 percent.
 
In 2013, Spain exported textiles and clothing worth €12 billion, indicating a rise of 12.4 percent year-on-year, of which exports from the garments sub-sector totaled €8.6 billion, registering a surge of 15.4 percent.
