Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 8.76 per cent year-on-year to $2.396 billion during the ten-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 3.21 per cent to $2.188 billion.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $18.554 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 67.20 per cent compared to exports of $56.567 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.
Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 15.78 per cent and fetched $941.332 million, as against exports of $1.117 billion made during July-April FY18. Exports of cotton fabric decreased marginally by 2.70 per cent and were valued at $1.774 billion during the first ten months of fiscal 2018-19, while bedwear exports increased by 2.40 per cent to $1.900 billion, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were up 7.24 per cent year-on-year to $475.333 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell by 1.88 per cent to $549.109 million. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined by 7.46 per cent year-on-year to $434.786 million during the period under review.
In fiscal 2017-18 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.67 per cent to $13.530 billion over $12.450 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
