Exports of textiles from China to advanced countries grew sharply during January-June 2020, according to the statistics compiled by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Textile & Apparel (CCCT), based on provisional statistics released by General Administration of Customs. However, export of apparel declined for most countries and regions.

Among the top 10 countries/regions of textile export during the first six months of this year, exports to France registered the highest growth of 548 per cent to $2.863 billion. Exports to Germany were up 290 per cent to $4.261 billion, while that to Canada were up 155 per cent to $1.5 billion. These were followed by the UK with growth of 132 per cent to $2.181 billion, and Japan with growth of 104 per cent to $4.430 billion, the data showed.

Among the top 10 countries/regions of apparel export during the period under review, exports to Russia saw significant drop of 34 per cent to $1.685 billion. Exports to the US were down 30 per cent to $10.610 billion, France down 18 per cent to $1.326 billion, Germany down 14.6 per cent to $2.148 billion, the Netherlands down 14.5 per cent to $1.263 million, and Japan down 11.8 per cent to $6.081 billion.

Thus, a clear trend of advanced nations increasing their textile import from China, while cutting down on their apparel import was seen during the first six months of this year.
