Telangana govt to double yarn subsidy to 40%

The Telangana government will launch a revised ‘yard subsidy’ scheme in Warangal on November 18 to benefit nearly 35,000 weavers, state handloom and textiles minister KT Rama Rao has announced. The 20 per cent subsidy on purchase of cotton, wool and silk yarns, dyes and chemicals by weavers and their cooperative societies has been doubled to 40 per cent.

Additionally, beneficiaries can avail the 10 per cent subsidy being offered by the central government, media reports from the state quoted the minister as saying. The state government allocated Rs 100 crore for the programme.

Weavers and other individual workers would get 35 per cent additional revenue, while weavers cooperative societies can generate an additional five per cent revenue., Rama Rao added. (DS)
