Dow AgroSciences LLC, owned by Dow Chemical Co, would plan to sell 20 varieties of cotton seed to US growers in the 2006 season.

Briefing the media, Duane Canfield, the US cotton marketing specialist for Dow AgroSciences, informed that there would be nine varieties for upland cotton, a combined nine for Western Acalas and Western Pimas, and remaining two might be sold across the cotton belt.

Company sells new varieties of seed, like most other, to American cotton growers, said another official of Dow AgroSciences.

Company's transgenic programme has an objective of enhancing disease resistance for problems like nematodes and raising fibre quality among others, said John Peiiow, the cotton field station leader for PhytoGen Cottonseed, wholly owned by Dow AgroSciences.

Cotton growers of US are among the top users of genetically modified cotton seeds in the world.
