Lawson Software announced that India-based Gini and Jony, a leading manufacturer of children's apparel is experiencing growth, due, in part, to its use of Lawson Fashion Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). The solution is designed specifically around the needs of companies in the apparel sector, offering pre-configured functionality to address the key development and production issues facing apparel producers.

"The recent implementation of this web-based system has helped the product design and development team spend up to 50 percent less time than before recording the detail of each new range it designs," said Gagan Kahlon, head of IT at Gini and Jony.

The improvement in efficiency has also freed up time for the company's design team to think about new concepts for coming seasons. "We believe that Lawson Fashion PLM will help us grow more quickly because more time can be spent developing a range with greater consumer appeal," said Kahlon. "The technical pack in Lawson Fashion PLM enables us to record every detail of the lifecycle of each new product, including design sketches and a bill of materials.

Information has become more transparent and accessible from any location, because the system is web-based. Everyone is confident it is accurate and up-to-date. Lawson Fashion PLM has also helped to improve working practices by creating more consistency and continuity in the way we work together internally, from design and procurement to sourcing and production."

Gini and Jony has also extended the use of Lawson Fashion PLM to strategic vendors, allowing better sharing of up-to-date information. This can help improve how Gini and Jony and its vendors manage changes to their production schedules.

Vibhaas Sing, head of design at Gini and Jony, leads a 22-person design team. He noted, "We produce about 800 styles, 1500 style options and 1600 color ways. At the end of the development cycle, it used to take up to 35 days to sift through all the paperwork, documenting each piece of information.

Now, it takes just a few minutes each day to record information, including changes that are visible to everyone. And at the same time we have created a comprehensive reference library within the system. Lawson Fashion PLM makes us better equipped to develop more appealing designs and to create higher consumer demand and increased sales. The system makes us more creative and more effective, and will be key to our success in future seasons."

Ptex Solutions, a Lawson partner in India, implemented the system. Prasham Kamdar, managing partner of Ptex Solutions added, "Gini and Jony wanted a solution to streamline the design process and reduce time-to-market. Lawson Fashion PLM has exceeded expectations and it is making a tangible contribution to increasing market competitiveness."
