NIFT/FRS collaboration: bringing planning skills to apparel industry

The National Institute of Fashion (NIFT), based in India and fashion industry planning experts Fast React Systems (FRS), based in UK and Asia have completed a collaborative initiative to bring good planning disciplines to the Apparel Industry.
Both the NIFT 4 year B.F. Tech (Bachelor of Fashion Technology) degree course and the 2 year M.F.Tech (Master in Fashion Technology) course include the new 'Educational Version' of the Globally recognised FastReact planning solution within the overall course content.
The Educational version of Fast React was developed in collaboration with NIFT to give students direct exposure to 'real world' fashion issues and solutions, also to emphasise the importance of good planning in today's intensely competitive apparel marketplace.
Professor Prabir Jana, Head Industry of NIFT explains "The B.F.Tech programme in particular is unique in the World, blending IT input with Apparel Production subjects. Because our students typically have an Engineering based skill set, their analytical skills are strong. These courses equip them to play a valuable role in the Apparel industry in many areas, including Production Management, Garment Technology, Sourcing and IT/Systems. FastReact was chosen as a key partner for this initiative because of its proven track record as a 'World Best' solution for planning and critical path management in the Fashion Industry".
Simon Gibson, Managing Director of Fast React Asia added "Many of our prospective customers are concerned about the availability of good staff, particularly those that understand the importance of a disciplined and systematic approach to planning. Successful business improvement is always a Company-wide initiative, with visible commitment by senior management. The input of talented young individuals to this process is an essential element and it is this area that we encourage through the initiative.
NIFT students go out into the industry with a sound understanding of the importance of good planning and how to apply it. Our Fast React team of local and Expat planning experts are then able to build on these skills through on-site training directly in apparel and textile factories. 'Continuous improvement' is a cornerstone of our business philosophy".
