Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited will launch a new website, northamptonshireleather.com on the 90th anniversary of the first AGM of SATRA Technology Centre, the world's leading research and technology centre of its kind based in Kettering, Northamptonshire.

The website will serve to celebrate and reinforce Northamptonshire as a world class centre for leather and footwear industries and expertise, promoting its compelling offering to businesses internationally. For centuries the county has been home to some of the world's most respected leather and footwear craftsmen, industries and more recently, associations.

The legacy of leather excellence remains to this day through prestigious gentlemen's footwear brands, firms providing technical assistance to the global leather industry, and several world and national associations dealing with leather and footwear trades.

Paul Southworth, Chair of Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited said; “Northamptonshire has an extremely long connection with the production of footwear, leather and leather goods. It is important that there is a place which celebrates Northamptonshire's leather heritage and brings together the industry and the businesses that still thrive in the county today.

“Being able to launch northamptonshireleather.com at SATRA on their 90th anniversary is a fantastic opportunity. SATRA is a well recognised local name with a worldwide reputation so provides the ideal setting to promote Northamptonshire's leather heritage and showcase the county's knowledge, expertise and innovation in this sector.”

Jake Locke, spokesperson for SATRA said: “When a product is bought, wherever it has been made, the customer wants to know that it meets quality standards. SATRA expertise has an important effect on setting quality standards the world over.

Despite growth in Far East production, requests for UK product development and testing received by SATRA from all over the world, including China, have continued to rise and SATRA has continued to invest in facilities in the UK, including the 75,000 square feet Wyndham Way Technology Centre in Northamptonshire. SATRA is one of the few diverse research and technology companies in the region that offers careers to people with scientific qualifications and experience or ambition.”

The website launch will take place today at SATRA in Kettering and will include speeches from leather experts including local leather merchant Ian Michel from Amandian, Mike Redwood from the Leather Conservation Centre / Museum of Leathercraft and Mark Wilkinson head of the British School of Leather Technology and Richard Turner, Chief Executive from SATRA.
