Demandware, Inc., the global leader in on-demand ecommerce, announced that Hanover Direct Inc., provider of quality, branded home furnishings, contemporary apparel and gifts, has selected the Demandware eCommerce Platform as the foundation for its direct-to-consumer online strategy. With Demandware, Hanover Direct has a central ecommerce platform for launching and managing multiple ecommerce sites, including a flexible and extensible development environment for creating customized user experiences unique to each brand.

Hanover Direct, number 84 in Internet Retailer's Top 500 Web Retailers, sells several brands of home fashions, gifts and apparel, including The Company Store, Domestications, Scandia Down, Silhouettes and Undergear, each one a leader in its market niche. Each brand has a catalog and a corresponding ecommerce site.

"A major reason why we selected Demandware is because of the unique advantages of its on-demand model," said Prasad Pola, CIO of Hanover Direct. "We considered investing in an in-house platform, but with Demandware, we get a fully customizable, enterprise-class ecommerce platform without having to assume the cost, maintenance and overhead of the platform infrastructure. This allows us to focus our resources on the marketing and merchandising of our sites, while Demandware worries about the rest. Operationally, it just makes better business sense."

Hanover Direct will re-platform all of its branded sites using Demandware, and will centrally manage multiple sites with numerous catalogs, price books and promotions. Demandware includes out-of-the-box core components for faster time to market, along with a full development environment for the in-house team to write custom code. With Demandware's Active Merchandising searchandising and analytics-driven merchandising functionality, Hanover Direct will have the tools to present customers with the right products at the right time.

"Hanover Direct is a veteran online retailer with a strong online portfolio, and we are excited that the company has chosen Demandware as its ecommerce platform. With Demandware, Hanover Direct is able to significantly streamline their merchandising and development practices, all through one on-demand ecommerce platform," said Stephan Schambach, Founder and Chairman of Demandware.
