ModCloth turns to novel solution for high-speed internet access

Mushroom Networks Inc, innovators of Broadband Bonding technology, announced that TRUFFLE, the company's flagship product along with their Broadband Bonding Service, has been implemented by ModCloth, a rapidly growing fashion retailer. The deployment solved a major operations issue by providing inexpensive high speed Internet and VPN services to three new offices that were not yet wired for DS3, MPLS or other means of high-speed Internet.

ModCloth has steadily grown into an online retailing sensation largely because of its distinctive business model of interacting intimately with shoppers via social media, allowing them to voice opinions and vote on upcoming inventory lines. The company depends greatly on reliable high-speed Internet both to power its storefront and corresponding offices. In the last year, ModCloth's growth warranted the opening of three new offices and relocation of many employees. This move relied greatly on the coordination of Internet service in a manner that would not affect daily operations. However, it would take up to three months for business-class broadband services to be installed.

Because waiting three months for Internet was not an option, ModCloth opted to implement Mushroom Networks' TRUFFLE to combine six inexpensive DSL lines into a single dedicated high-speed connection. In addition, ModCloth incorporated Mushroom's Broadband Bonding Service, an optional monthly subscription service for uplink bonding (providing high-speed in the upstream direction) and reliability for any type of Internet traffic including virtual private network (VPN) and voice over IP (VoIP). By pairing TRUFFLE with the Broadband Bonding Service, ModCloth was able to achieve the necessary bandwidth requirements while attaining near 100 percent reliability between all of its offices.

"Mushroom's TRUFFLE is literally a network in a box and as easy to set up as a home router. Once the DSL lines were installed, we had our offices running in about 15 minutes," said ModCloth's Infrastructure Manager. "Expansion was a challenge because our business relies so heavily on broadband yet our buildings weren't equipped when we needed it. Mushroom however allowed us to quickly get our offices online using inexpensive DSL service in place of T-1, delivering equivalent speed with monthly cost savings of over 70 percent."

Mushroom Networks' line of Broadband Bonding products easily installs between the broadband modems and the local network at the customer's premises without requiring any configuration changes to the existing network or coordination with the ISPs. The device bonds as many as six high-speed Internet connections of any type, wired or wireless, from multiple service providers into a single Internet connection.
