Nanotechnology presents imaginative, exciting and novel properties to textiles for fashion and industry.
Institute of Nanotechnology announces that its event will focus on these new applications of nanotechnology, particularly in today's framework of smartness, sustainability and resource conservation.
These range from scent-embedded textiles, stay-clean textiles and textiles with displays or the ability to change colour, to lightweight fabrics that are so strong they can withstand the impact of a bullet.
Many new textiles are also being developed for health, promoting faster healing and enhancing well-being in the disabled and ageing population.
International Speakers include: Dirk Hegemann, EMPA, St Gallen: 'Nanoporous Functional Coatings for Textiles' Annalisa Bonfigli, ProeTex, University of Cagliari: 'MicroNanoStructured Fibre Systems for Emergency-Disaster Wear' Wilhelm Barthlott, Bonn 'Lotus-Effect: Bio-inspired Self-cleaning Surfaces' Moritz Graf zu Eulenburg, Coatema AG, Dormagen: 'Nanocoatings for Medical and Hygienic Applications' Phil Sams, Unilever: 'Nanotechnologies and the Fashion Paradox' Professor Jim Johnston, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand: 'Gold Nanoparticles as Colourants and Functional Entities in High Fashion Textiles' Rob Lomax, Baxenden Chemicals: 'Breathable Polyurethanes for Sportswear, Workwear and Medical Textiles' Mark Schaerlaekens, Centexbel, The Belgium Textile Research Centre: 'Melt-extrusion with nano-additives as an innovative way towards high performance textile products' Mr. Vicente Cambra, AITEX-Instituto Tecnológico Textil:
