The Make It Yourself With Wool Contest is an exciting opportunity for anyone who likes to work with wool, sewing, felting, knitting or crocheting. The contest has proven to be fun and educational. Ribbons and prizes will be given to all contestants participating in the contest.

The Make It Yourself With Wool Contest will be held, Saturday October 15, 2005 from 10am to 2pm at the 33rd Annual Sheep & Wool Festival at the Dutchess County Fair Grounds Rhinebeck, New York. The festival is a two-day event October 15 & 16. There are many vendors selling wool products.

There are five divisions:

Pre-teens 12 and under
Juniors, 13 to 16
Seniors 17 to 24
Adults 25 and older (age as of December 31, 2004)

Made for others (any age)

The contest is divided into three parts: modeling the outfit, garments judged on and off the contestant. Garments may be sewn, knitted (by hand or knitting machine) crocheted or felted from fiber of 100% wool or wool blend (minimum 60% wool or specialty wool fiber) for each fashion fabric or yarn used. Specialty wool fibers include mohair, cashmere alpaca, camel, llama and vicuna. There will also be a modeling session, time will be posted at check in desk..

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS OCTOBER 1, 2005

This year The National Make It Yourself with Wool National Finals will be held on January 26-28, 2006 in Phoenix, AZ New York State contestants must enter and be judged and selected from this competition in order to qualify for the national contest.
