Fashion designer Sharbari Dutta found dead in residence

Indian fashion designer Sharbari Dutta was found dead in her bathroom at her Kolkata residence late last evening. She was 63 and lived alone. She was not reachable on phone since morning, according to her family members. Her body has been sent by police for a post-mortem examination. She is survived by her fashion designer son Amalin Dutta.

Police reportedly found no foul play during preliminary investigation, while a news agency reported that doctors diagnosed stroke as the reason for her death.

The daughter of Bengali poet Ajit Dutta, she became famous designing men's ethnic wear after passing out of college . Her label became popular for her unique blend of ethnicity with modernity in fabric and vibrancy in colour.

Later, Dutta set up her own brand Shunyaa, with outlets in Kolkata. She dabbled in women's wear as well.
