Ralph Lauren to be 1st US designer to be knighted in UK

US fashion mogul Ralph Lauren will become the first American designer to be made an Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) by the British Queen Elizabeth II in a ceremony next year. The 79-year-old designer will join a select few Americans like Angelina Jolie and Steven Spielberg who have received the honour.
In his career in fashion, business, and philanthropy, Lauren has played a key role in forging transatlantic cultural and economic connections, Antony Phillipson, British consul general to New York, said in a press note.
Phillipson also noted Lauren’s philanthropic efforts, especially in public health, cancer research and treatment in both the United States and the United Kingdom, US media reported. (DS)
