Marketing products in this day and age is very competitive, especially with a large portion of the population now turning to the World Wide Web to do their purchasing. That being said, there are still those die hard shoppers who love to go ‘window shopping’ looking for a bargain. For those potential customers that visit your establishment, you need to make sure that you do all that you can to hook them in, make them interested and get that sale. You might not think that it works, but appealing to the human senses is a great way to entice potential consumers to make a purchase in your establishment.

It is important to recognize that all humans, no matter what age, use all of their senses when making decisions. Keeping this in mind, your products should appeal to all of the senses of the consumer. You need to think about the sense of sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing. By integrating any combination or all of these senses, you will be able to take advantage of normal human nature and increase your sales.

When a customer comes into your establishment, it is the sense of vision that they tune into first. The very first look at your products must capture them. If the visual presentations of your products are not wonderful and appealing, then it is only going to discourage any potential customer from continuing to shop in your store.

Next, you need to think about the sense of touch. You should always encourage your customers to touch, hold and feel any product that you have to offer. If you offer something that is used such as hand cream, make sure to have samples to use. This will not only increase your marketing strategy, but will also draw in the customer to see what other products you have to offer.

Along the same lines, if you have a product that has a smell or aroma to it, by all means, encourage the customer to take a sniff. People’s sense of smell is a powerful attraction tool, and will entice people to make a purchase.

You can also cash in on your customer’s sense of taste as well. If you are offering food products, then by all means, provide a sample. Studies have shown that people are more likely to make a purchase of a food item if they have just tasted it… so set out those samples.

Finally, there is hearing. It is important to make sure that you are knowledgeable about the products that you sell. If you see someone looking at something, give them a little bit more information about the product. Show them how it will benefit them to make the purchase. If the product is something that can be demonstrated, then, by all means, make sure to demonstrate it. This will draw them in and make them want to purchase your product.

No matter how you run your business, it is important to remember that your potential customer is only human. Remember that most people make decisions about purchases based upon appeal, and if you appeal to the senses, you will be able to persuade the potential customer to make that purchase.
