Executive Summary


The increased success of Australias cotton in the Asianmarket has increased the focus on its quality. If Australia is to maintain andgrow its quality customer base it will need to extend the description of itsproduct beyond the current USDA classing and shipper type models and define thefibre more in terms of Australias customers needs. In order to understand thecurrent needs of its customers, the Australian Cotton Industry through theCSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology Division (CTFT) and with the support of theAustralian Cotton Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) and the Australian CottonShippers Association (ACSA) conducted a survey during 2002 and 2003 todetermine how customers of Australian cotton, i.e. spinning mills, perceivedthe quality of Australian cotton fibre.
