ABSTRACT

Study of the mechanism of loop formation deals with the role of various processing variable during production of knitted fabrics. The mechanism was explained based on mathematical model and geometry of knitting zone. The properties of knitted fabrics are governed by two parameters i.e. Loop length and Loop shape. The loop shape can retain during relaxation (Wet or dry) period but loop length controlled only during process.

The Loop length depends up on three variables i.e. yarn input tension, cam setting, and take down. The mathematical models derived from authors given the theoretical formulae of loop length which including the actual knitting zone parameters as well as assumptions taken based on two dimensional geometry of knitting zone. This mechanism of loop formation helps in order to reduce the cost of the production and quality levels.

1.INTRODUCTION

Knitting is the processes of forming fabric by inter looping yarn in a series of connected loops using needles. Knit fabrics provide outstanding comfort qualities and have long been preferred in many types of clothing. In addition to comfort imparted by the extensible looped structure, knits also provide lightweight warmth, wrinkle resistance, and ease of care. Depending on desired aesthetics, hand and 6 performances, knit fabrics can be produced by one of two basic knitting technologies.
