In China, zippers are synonymous with just one brand: SBS Zipper. It's easy to see why. Being the country's largest zipper manufacturer (not to mention, the second largest in the world in annual production), SBS Zipper has fashioned itself as a leader in its field, constantly producing quality products that are in high demand, both locally and abroad.
Though SBS Zipper's name broke out on the international scene only a decade ago, the company has been in business since 1984. It was originally known as the Hua Lian Zipper Factory, and was headquartered at Shenhu, Jinjiang. In 1990, as the company looked into developing itself as an international brand with a strong emphasis on family-based management, Hua Lian Zipper Factory was renamed SBS Metal Casting Corporation Limited. SBS referred to the brothers and sisters of the family who founded the company.
From a small factory in Jinjian, SBS Zipper eventually turned into the global powerhouse that it is today, with five large manufacturing bases all over China (Fujian, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Dongguan). To date, it is only second to YKK Zippers when it comes to manufacturing volume on a global scale annually. Director of SBS Zipper Xiaofeng Zhang, tells Fibre2Fashion how the company charted its course.
What are the company's products and services?
Since its inception more than three decades ago, SBS Zipper has been involved in the production of a variety of zipper products and other zipper-related accessories. Some of these include zippers made out of materials like metal, plastic, and nylon; sliders; pullers with long chains; nylon coil and invisible zippers, as well as the precision moulds and castings of the zippers themselves. Always on the forefront of innovation, SBS Zipper has been releasing new lines of zippers showcasing the current advancements made by the company in zipper technology. The excellent quality of SBS Zipper's product is rooted in the company's hands-on approach to production. All of the steps involved in the manufacturing process for the zippers-the design, proofing, braiding, dyeing, electroplating and precision testing-are done in-house, using in-house facilities. This allows the company to take big strides on the global front. Its product line has been shipped to more than 80 countries abroad. It counts among its clients big names such as Adidas, Pump, Fila, Jaka, and Kappa-all well-known international brands in their own right.
