China's daily average power generation at 27.3 bn KWh in July '23: NBS

China has reported a 3.6 per cent year-on-year increase in power generation for July 2023, reaching an average of 27.3 billion kilowatt-hour (KWh) per day, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). This marks a growth acceleration of 0.8 percentage points compared to June 2023.

The details provided by the NBS highlight a rise in several sectors of the energy industry. During July, thermal power output grew by 7.2 per cent, nuclear power by 2.9 per cent, wind power by a significant 25 per cent, and solar power by 6.4 per cent, compared to the same period last year.

In contrast, the country experienced a decline in hydropower output, which fell 17.5 per cent from a year earlier. Though significant, this decrease has narrowed compared to June, where it had been 16.4 percentage points higher, as per NBS.
